The Apple iPhone SE(2020). Special Edition or Small Edition. The Budget iPhone is here and it has made us remember the old days. Apple must had plans for a great launch event in march but the COVID-19 turned everything upside down and plans were scrapped. The new iPhone was unveiled out of the blue on maker’s website but now has created a buzz as this is the cheapest iPhone in 2-3 years and is a bang for the bucks offer.
The Highlight feature of the new iPhone is the A13 Bionic chip which is the latest from Apple is used by iPhone 11 trio. The rest of the features are basically of iPhone 8. The Body is that of iPhone 8 with some minor tweaking. The logo has moved to the center of the back panel to compliment the latest iPhone design. Talking of Back panel it is made of Glass and has Wireless charging support.
The front of the phone has a 4.7 inch 720p IPS LCD panel with 326 pixels per inch. The top and bottom of the phone have thick bezels that houses the front camera and Touch ID respectively. The Touch ID has a great response and is one of the quickest. The broad bezels looked outdated on the iPhone 8, looks ancient on iPhone SE(2020), Apple could have narrowed the bezels to make it look a little modern, but Apple has ignored the design front and that is how they were able to achieve this price tag.
The Brightness on the phone is on the lower side and you will find it difficult to read in bright sunlight. Apple should have increased the brightness as this would bother some of you.
The design of the phone is overall good and many people will like its compact design, one hand usability, and small form factor. It measures 138.4 x 67.3 x 7.3 mm and weighs 148g. The bezels on the front are a letdown and we will have to compromise it for the price. The iPhone SE(2020) is IP67 dust and water-resistant.
It also gets Stereo Speakers, which are quite good. The iPhone SE(2020) uses a Taptic Engine to improve the haptic feedback.
On the performance front there is no complaint at all, iPhone SE(2020) runs on A13 Bionic chip and anything you throw on the phone it just runs butter smooth. This has to be the main selling point of the after its compact design.
The Battery on the phone is just 1,821 mAh and it is small there is no denying the fact that this is a small capacity battery at least on the paper. In real life the iPhone just made it through the day with minimal usage. But if you want to play PUBG or multitask then you will have to charge the phone in the evening or as per your usage. The phone supports 18W fast charging but sadly Apple only provides a 5W slow charger in the box and for the price Apple should have provided fast chargers in the box. There is wireless charging support and it will be helpful.
The latest iPhone has a single 12 MP lens on the back with f/1.8 aperture. It has Optical Image Stabilization, smart HDR, quad-LED flash, and auto-focus. The photos on the camera are pretty good with great contrast and details. In good lighting conditions the photos are sharp and detailed. There is no Night mode and the image has a lot of noise in low lighting conditions.
It can record 4K video at 60fps and 1080p video at 30/60/120/240 fps. The videos are the best in the price with great stability and details, it is on par with the 11 series iPhone.
On the front, it has a 7MP selfie camera with f/2.2 aperture. It has a BSI sensor and HDR mode. It can record 1080p video at 30fps. The photos from the selfie camera are good with great details and sharpness. The video is average and misses out on OIS.
On the left, there is a Sim tray and Power Lock/Unlock button. Right there is Volume rockers and mute switch. On the Bottom, there is a speaker grill, primary microphone grill, and lightning port. The top of the phone is blank.

- iPhone SE(2020)
There are there color on option RED, BLACK and WHITE. ( All the color option comes with a black front bezel ) .
The price of the new iPhone starts at Rs 42,500 for the 64 GB variant. It also has 128 GB and 256 GB on offer. This is where it becomes tricky. The US pricing starts at $399 which when converted by the current exchange rate to INR amounts to Rs 30,365.89. Even if the pricing had been Rs 33,000 or Rs 35,000, then there had been a no brainer to recommend the new iPhone. But Apple had priced it high and now it competes with the likes of OnePlus 8 (https://gadgetlens.com/one-plus-8-specification/), IQOO 3, Realme X50 pro and also the MI 10 which is scheduled to launch on May 8th. The higher storage also competes with OnePlus 8 pro (https://gadgetlens.com/one-plus-8-pro-specification/).
None the Less, the new iPhone has its own set of features. It has a very powerful processor inside a very very compact design, good camera, solid build, wireless charging, NFC, stereo speakers, and above all iOS stability. The people who want an iPhone and do not want to spend extensively on 11 series can go for iPhone SE(2020).
