One Plus launched its T lineup of 7th series on 26th September 2019 and now its 7 months from its launch and still it is one of the best phones to consider if you are looking for a phone under the price bracket of Rs 30000- Rs 40000. It was launched for Rs 37,999 for 128 GB variant and Rs 39,999 for 256 GB variant, and from that time the price has dropped significantly it now starts at Rs 34,999. Is it still the best to have for the price, we will find out in this blog. The One Plus 7 was relatively a good phone but it lacked feature as compared to its rival Redmi K20 Pro and Asus 6z. Now the One Plus 7T bridges the gap with its feature-packed appearance and low cost. The main question arises that “Is it still a good choice to go for One Plus 7T ? ”
But is it still one of the best to buy under the price with the introduction of Realme X2 pro , Realme X50 pro , IQOO 3 in the market . Let us see how One Plus 7T perform after 7 months .
When One Plus launched 7T its camera module design did not appeal to everyone, it was a like or a hate design. For me it grew up on me after some days and the Oreo shaped camera design gave it a unique design. The back panel has been made Matt or not Matt ….. no it is a middle ground, it attracts some fingerprint smudges but not that of a shiny surface. So you can call it a 70% Matt surface but it looks good with its shiny aluminum side panel. The Back panel has curved edges which makes the phone pretty comfortable to hold and it feels pretty solid in the hands. The Back panel is made from 3D Corning Gorilla Glass 5.
The Front of the phone has a 6.55 inches 90 Hz Fluid Amoled Display . It is slightly taller with 20:9 aspect ratio and 1080*2400 resolution . It also support HDR 10+ . One Plus says that this screen support sRGB and P3 colour gamuts , but we do not know up to which extent .
It has a dewdrop display which is surprising as one plus gave pop up mechanism in 7 pro and went back to dewdrop it 7T, but we assume it is only for the pro variant. Coming back …. the notch has shrunken from that of One Plus 7 and we can say that it is by far the most small dewdrop notch and it is accompanied by negligible bezels on the side and a tiny chin. We can say that the front is much pleasing to the eye and looks modern as well, and even today the design will not bore you. Meanwhile the display has the max brightness of 1000 nit. And we can guarantee you that it is one of the best displays in the segment and 90 Hz Amoled display is just brilliant.
It still has the elongated frond grill which houses the secondary speaker and the earpiece. On the right side of the phone we have the On/Off button and the legendary Alert slider. On the left side, we have the volume rockers. On the bottom we have the main speaker and Type – C port and the dual sim slot. On the top we just have the secondary noise cancellation microphone and antenna bands.
At 190g and 8.13 mm thick , this is a fairly bulky phone but it not a deal breaker . There is no 3.5mm headphone jack and finally we feel that One Plus has moved on from the Jack . We would have liked wireless charging and an IP rating for water and dust protection , but the company does not specify anything on that part , so we will have to miss that features .
SPECIFICATIONS AND SOFTWARE
One Plus 7T uses Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ processor, which has a slightly faster 2.96GHz high-performance Kyro 485 CPU core than the snapdragon 855, while the other seven efficiency core remains the same . 8 GB of ram is standard across all the variants coupled with a 128GB or 256GB UFS 3.0 storage. It uses a LPDDR 4X RAM. The 128GB variant is currently retailing for Rs 34,999 and the 256 GB retails for 37,999. One Plus does not provide with micro SD slot but the increased storage variant is an advantage.
The Battery has gone through an update and has 3800mAh compared to 3700mAh. One Plus has given a new Warp charge 30T charger with the phone and the company claims that it is faster than the older Warp charge 30. The charger is claimed to fill up the phone from 0% to 70% in about half an hour and in our test it charged the phone from 0 to 100 in 65-70 mins.
There’s dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11ac; Bluetooth 5.0 with aptX HD and LDAP; GPS; NFC and all the regular sensors. One Plus has improved its Haptic vibration motor considerably and it feels like one used in high-end phones. The In-display fingerprint sensor is blazing fast and the face recognition is also very quick. There are a few hi-end featured that we miss like Bluetooth 6, wireless charging, and IP rating. The sim tray has a red rubber ring around so you can expect to be saved from some water splashes.
One Plus 7T comes with Android 10 out of the box and it was the first phone in India to come out with android 10 out of the box. It runs on Oxygen OS 10 which is one of the best custom software and you will have no complaint with it. It comes with all the essential features you need and bring a hassle-free experience. Till now it has got several updates and the experience and performance have improved considerably.
PERFORMANCE AND BATTERY LIFE
The One Plus 7T feels very snappy and responsive , with snapdragon 855+ and 90Hz display combined it is a buttery smooth experience . Oxygen OS 10 ran perfectly smooth and any game you throw in it , it just ran with perfection . Heavy apps and multitasking was not an issue on the phone . However , the rear of the phone got little warm while gaming continuously but nothing to alarm for .
With everyday usage the battery life was pretty good and it will easily last for a full day if you do not play a lot of game and multitask . The battery can be a little less for gamers but with the Warp charge 30T you will be compensated for that . We would have appreciated if the mAh count could have been more as seen in the many recent phones .
The Cameras on One Plus 7T was one of the main improvements over other models. Now it had a proper Triple Camera setup with a wide-angle and a telephoto lens. We have a 48-megapixel primary shooter with a wide f/1.6 aperture. This is the Sony’ flagship IMX586 sensor which Optical Image Stabilization and Electronic Image Stabilization. The secondary rear camera is a 16-megapixel ultra-wide sensor with a 117-degree field of view. The third one is a telephoto lens with a 2x optical zoom, and an f/2.2 aperture.
The camera performed well in most senarious but there was a constant problem of auto focus and we had to manually touch to focus . Night mode could have been better and there is a lack of detail and noise creaps in the image .
The photos taken from the Main camera has the best quality and details. Telephoto camera performed well, bagging the second position, and third, came the ultra-wide camera sensor which is a little weaker. The video is quite crisp and clear with good stabilization. Only the primary lens offer stabilization and the other two aren’t available when the resolution is set to 4k. Stabilization works well in 1080p.
The two-color available is the Frosted silver and Glacier blue. Both the color is good and looks decent in real life. Glacier blue looks more flashy and eye-catching and will appeal to more young and millennial group. Frosted silver on the other hand gives a very classy and subtle look. I prefer the Frosted silver as it givers a premium look and combined with shinny side rim.
One Plus 7T still is one of the best phones in Rs 30000 to Rs 40000 price bracket. It still is a pretty fast phone and you would never experience lag or choppy performance. It has a good triple camera setup which performs well in both indoor and outdoor conditions. You will enjoy video recording from this phone. Multimedia experience is one of the best in the segment, with fairly loud stereo speakers, amazing fluid AMOLED display, HDR10+ support. Battery could have been better but with medium usage it would last you for a day, and the new Warp charge 30T is an added advantage. Design preference is up to you some may like it some may not, but for me it has a pretty decent design, and its Oreo shaped camera cutout will differentiate it from other phones. It gets an advantage because of its recent price cut, which has made it a more value for money package.
The main competitors in the market are Realme X2 Pro , Realme X50 Pro , ASUS ROG PONE 2 , SAMSUNG S10 Lite , SAMSUNG NOTE 10 Lite , IQOO 3 .
We would be bringing to you the comparison of these phones which will help you to choose the right phone in your budget . STAY TUNED !
